Quick Operation Manual (Short Form)
- Pre-Deployment Configuration
- Connect the beacon to a compatible PC via the MCBH5M interface and RS232 serial adapter (9600 baud rate, 8-N-1)
- Configure operating mode (Transponder/Responder/Pinger), transmit/receive frequencies, pulse rate, and Multi-Fire ID via Applied Acoustics configuration software
- Verify battery charge status; full charge is recommended before deployment (3-hour fast charge for full capacity)
- Deployment
- Secure the beacon to the target asset (ROV/AUV/towfish) using the integrated mounting points, ensuring the transducer has unobstructed line of sight to the surface USBL array
- Power on the beacon; it will enter listening standby mode by default, awaiting acoustic interrogation
- For Responder mode, connect the external trigger input to the asset’s control system (5-25V DC trigger signal)
- In-Operation
- The beacon will automatically respond to valid acoustic interrogation signals from the surface USBL system
- Monitor range and positioning data via your surface navigation software; the integrated depth sensor will transmit real-time depth data for enhanced positioning accuracy
- Adhere to the rated operational battery life to avoid power loss during deployment
- Post-Deployment
- Retrieve the beacon and rinse thoroughly with fresh water to remove saltwater and debris
- Dry the unit completely, especially the connector interface, and apply dielectric grease to the connector pins
- Recharge the battery fully before storage; store in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight and corrosive materials
